I wish I were one of those people who had all their shopping done by December 1^st. Instead, I just start thinking about it around then, in a little bit of a panic I might add. Therefore, every year I do more and more online shopping because of the time crunch I’m under. I always ask for ideas from my hubby and kids and my favorite is when the lists include links…LOL! How easy is that? ADD TO CART! However, it’s always fun when you can actually surprise someone with a thoughtful gift they weren’t expecting. Last year I received a gift that was just perfect for my gardening heart; an Amaryllis bulb potted up in a cute little pot. I loved that it was just the bulb with a green stem full of potential. How special do you feel when people take the time to think through who you are and come up with just the right gift?! For me…any sort of plant would thrill me but a flowering one, that was perfect. It was the gift that keeps on giving too, I just potted it back up to enjoy again this winter.

One I had never seen before was a waxed Amaryllis bulb. I’m so glad I know about it now! It requires no soil and no water. It’s the easiest plant you’ll ever grow! I just placed it in a windowsill where it would receive indirect light and in just a few weeks you could see a bud, then shortly after that a big ole’ flower emerged! Just stunning, and so amazing… no dirt, no water, no work!

The second bulb came all potted up for me. A black planter wrapped in a red and black buffalo check fabric. It was called a Miracle Amaryllis. How perfect that it will boast huge red velvety blooms just in time for Christmas!

The third bulb came as a naked bulb. All ready for me to pot up in whatever I wanted. I love that it came with very specific instructions on how to plant and care for each bulb. The naked bulb comes in the cutest little drawstring linen bag, making it so easy to give as a gift. What a great stocking stuffer as well! Especially if you’re like me, filling stockings to the brim until they’re overflowing. My family always laughs at all the presents sitting outside their stockings. I just can’t help it!

The final thing I received was their Dutch Bulb wooden crate. The catalog lists several unique ways to use it. It has a fine metal screen bottom like those used to sort and dry harvested bulbs. In the Breck’s Gift Catalog they displayed a Fairy garden in it, so cute! It could be used in so many ways. I started out using it to display my potted bulbs but currently am using it as a Christmas centerpiece on my coffee table. I filled it with greens and berries and a faux Amaryllis at the moment, until my real ones bloom. 😉
