The story behind Our Thanksgiving Table at the Cabin begins with a trip to Kentucky. Our family traveled there to stay the weekend at an Airbnb, so we could attend a family wedding. It was Thanksgiving weekend, so not only did we enjoy the traditional day of feasting but also an entire weekend together. We had so much fun playing games, watching football, crafting, cooking, etc., that we decided to rent the same house the next year.

As you can imagine this requires thinking ahead on so many levels. I debated whether or not to bring along items to prepare a beautiful table or not… I brought nothing. Once we got there I regretted that and decided to get creative with the table anyway by using what I could find outside, all around the house. I asked the gal who owned the home if I could pick the berries that grew just outside and cut some pines as well. It was simple and beautiful.
So when we decided to build our own little cabin getaway this past year, having this Thanksgiving tradition carry on, where we gather together for not just a day but rather a weekend, is a dream come true.
I’m sure it goes without saying, that being able to decorate Our Thanksgiving Table at the Cabin, has been so FUN for me!
My inspiration..the beautiful woods our cabin is nestled in. All the great elements of nature are my favorite for decorating a table. I had my hubby cut several different size logs, so I could use them as candle holders. I then clear coated them by brushing on some polyacrylic satin clear , to keep them from being messy.
Each place setting includes a Natural weave round placemat, grey stoneware, and Black Matte Silverware with a sprig of real pine, to keep with the woodland theme.
I purchased the napkins at World Market. I loved the feathers, they were something different yet fit in so well. I wanted the feathers to stay visible so I kept the napkins flat and wrapped them with a weaved ribbon, partnered with a simple orange one, for a small pop of color.
Choosing several different colors and textures of ribbon, as well as some jute and tags creates a FUN addition to any place setting.
Tags can be used in so many ways on a table. Use them as place cards, for select words to accent the season or even for sketching a favorite holiday symbol on them.
For the centerpiece, I used a pine garland down the middle of the table, and placed the log pieces on both sides so they varied in height, then selected several to display the candles.
I twirled up some of the gingham wired ribbon and added bits of that evenly throughout the garland.
For more woodland accents, I added in a few large acorn type stems as well as feathers to compliment the napkins.
The deer antlers also made a great addition, in keeping with the theme for Our Thanksgiving Table at the Cabin.
My excitement for the Holidays at the cabin found me putting up a Christmas tree prior to Thanksgiving, which you can see in the background. So I wanted to create a table that would fit with just a touch of Christmas as well!
The Grandkids call my Hubby “Papa”. This cabin is Papa’s dream!

I was born and raised in Monroe MI. After my dad passed my mother moved us South to Va. we still have family up north. My older brother had a cabin in Northern MI to go hunting and just a get away from the city. He worked for Fords until he retired. He adored it. He passed away several years ago. Your husband reminds me of him. I know this sounds sad and depressing but really its not! Your posts bring a warm feeling to my heart. Memories of cold, snowy, windy winters in MI as a child. Your voice brings tears to my eyes. You sound just like my older sister from MI. Who has passed away as well. Seriously it’s good tears! I adore your style and could listen to you talk all day. I follow you on Instagram and just love to watch you decorate! You inspire me!
Marcy this is such a special message! I so appreciate you sharing with me.I love hearing about your family and your memories..and thank you for such kind words!
